Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Streetscene team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all highway networks, footways, bridges and lighting on all public roads, contributing to the wellbeing of our community and creating a sustainable public realm.

The person must have an understanding of or experience of Road Safety within an urban environment. The preferred candidate should also be able to understand plans and drawings and other relevant technical information related to Traffic Engineering project. A good understanding of relevant Road Safety legislation and knowledge of Road Safety and School Crossing Patrol issues as they affect the inner city is required together with knowledge of Best Value criteria.

The ideal candidate will be tactful, persuasive and have excellent communication (both orally and in writing). You will also have experience in managing staff, budgets, publicity campaigns and giving presentations to a wide variety of audiences.

We are looking for a highly motivated, forward thinking individual who can fully manage the team of school crossing patrol officers, whilst supporting the wider road safety initiatives that will be taken forward within the borough. The position offers the chance for the post holder to become involved in a wide range of initiatives engaging with all road users, businesses, schools, other organisations and communities across the borough. You therefore need to be highly motivated, articulate, persuasive, IT literate and a good understanding of the strategic road safety issues across London.
