Jobs, whether in the Job or ex-Job...

One of Off Duty's first activities, way back in 1996, was in helping recently retired police officers find work after the Job. Fortunately, matters have improved over the last ten years - partly, we feel, due to our efforts! We now provide a jobs service to the wider police service, as well as to those approaching retirement from the Job.

Off Duty services - working for you, whenever you're off duty...

The Off Duty site has a range of relevant information and services covering money (insurance, loans, mortgages, debt advice, new car deals, plus support and information when buying property overseas), entertainment (games and jokes), travel (flights, hotel, as well as holiday homes to let in the UK and Overseas), health, as well as a busy community site including bulletin board, free classified advertising and more. Working for you whilst you’re off duty – whether you’re serving or retired police, forces, fire or ambulance service. And, if you'd like to help us publicise Off Duty, POSTERS for you to put up on a noticeboard (or three) near you!

Preparing for retirement from the Job ...

Back in 1996, Off Duty actually started life as a provider of support to long service police officers preparing for their retirement from the Job. Off Duty founder, Bernard Rix, had undertaken work for the Home Office on this subject - see picture, right.

The key concerns that many long service officers had then (and still have now) about leaving the service have are money, and work. Although most expect to take their full commutation, many are unsure as to whether this is the best option, and others are unsure about how they can best plan to deal with a reduced income.

Over the past ten years, we've developed and improved our services for those approaching retirement. This includes developing our now near-famous seminar on "Commutation - Yes or No?", covering relevant financial matters. We now provide this service in association with Hatch Associates, which itself is run by an ex-police officer, with seminars run across the country. We've just about lost count of how many officers have attended - it's certainly well over 1,000. Comments we have received include"Very informative. A must to listen to prior to retirement" and "Good all round advice given"
